EXCURSION
TO OLKILUOTO
We
are prepared to arrange an excursion to Olkiluoto, the
nuclear waste final disposal investigation site in western Finland.
This area and related geological issues will be introduced in two
presentations during the conference. On 9th September you
will have the opportunity to visit this place, however, the number of
participants has to be limited to 14 persons. Estimated price for each
participants is 280 EUR including transportation, hotel, dinner,
breakfast and lunch.
Posiva
is the nuclear waste management organisation in Finland and is
responsible for research into the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel
and for the construction, operation and eventual backfilling and
closure of the final disposal facility. During the excursion, we will
visit the ONKALO investigation tunnel, Posiva's drill core laboratory
and selected key outcrops in the site. Site characterisation
activities at Olkiluoto have been taking place for over 20 years by
means of ground- and air-based methods and with shallow and deep
(300-1000 m) drillholes. Construction of underground rock
characterisation facility, ONKALO, started in 2004. ONKALO will be a
part of repository facilities as an access tunnel.
